In reply to Peter Codar. I am not myself an expert in creating the loader for these VM. I guess that DSM updates come with some changes that are not compatible anymore with the loader, like address where the loader expect some info ?!

Thank you very much for this fantastic WORKING step-by-step guide!
I was able to install it on VMWare Workstation v17 thanks to your ZIP-package and instructions.

Just 1 question:
Why can we not upgrade this DSM?
I really don’t understand the reasons behind it.

Hey vletroye,

I have been having issues with getting ds918 dsm installation it had been erroring out just after dsm install got to 8%, I tried various 918+ version .pats using this tutorial: https://www.beatificabytes.be/setup-dsm-7-0-1-in-a-virtual-synology-ds918-using-vmware/

BUT (yes in caps 🙂 ) stumbled upon this tutorial of yours and walla, installation has worked out the box my man!!!!!!!! I am well chuffed!

I own some Synology hardware already but wanted to try this in a VM (running in Workstation 17 pro), this install has worked smoothly for me.
I even added additional SATA virtual disks to VM and created another pool and volumes successfully.
I plan to create some iSCSI LUNS on there and present to my homelab environment within VMWare next.

Great tutorial!

In reply to CastielVH. I am not sure why your 7th Storage Pool is not showing up... But the DS3622xs+ has only 12 bays. Did you already add 12 disks in the Volumes of your 6 previous Storage Pools ? (Also, just curious, but why do your create so many Storage Pool ?)

It works for me for a while now, after jumping from one of your other ova to this one. But one of the issues I’m struggling with is that detecting new virtual disks is flaky and not working from time to time.

I tried restarting, rebooting the host etc.

Have you had this problem?
